Provincial authorities urge strict water conservation as rainfall drops by 60% across the island.
The provincial government issued a stern warning this week. Marinduque has officially entered a dry spell. Rainfall levels plummeted over the last three months. Statistics show a 60% decrease compared to seasonal averages. Fields are drying. Water levels in local reservoirs are receding fast.
Boac and Santa Cruz face the highest risk. Residents reported lower water pressure in several barangays. The provincial LGU recommends immediate action. Fix leaks now. Avoid using garden hoses for car washes. Harvest rainwater whenever possible. Local agriculture offices are monitoring rice and coconut farms for signs of heat stress.
The situation may worsen. State weather bureau PAGASA predicts a transition to El Nino by July. Some models suggest a "super" event. This could mean prolonged drought through December. Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (PDRRMO) are already prepositioning resources. They aim to secure the island's food and water supply before the heat peaks.
