A minor tectonic earthquake of magnitude 1.4 shook the waters off Buenavista, Marinduque, with no damage or aftershocks expected.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded a minor tectonic earthquake off the coast of Buenavista, Marinduque on June 2, 2026. The seismological event occurred at exactly 9:41:39 AM. The epicenter was located approximately 14 kilometers south of Buenavista at coordinates 13.13°N, 121.92°E.
The tremor registered a magnitude of 1.4 on the Richter scale. Scientists recorded a depth of focus at 36 kilometers. PHIVOLCS assured the public that the event would not cause any structural damage to the province. Additionally, officials do not expect any aftershocks from the minor event.
Marinduque occasionally experiences small tectonic movements due to active fault systems in the region. Local disaster risk reduction management offices continuously monitor local seismic activity to ensure community safety.
